Perfume is the perfect expression of metamorphosis; transforming exotic raw materials into captivating fragrances, it can remove you from the ordinary and transport you to the extraordinary. It is the ultimate personal luxury; perfume is sensual, beguiling, glamorous and expressive. It has the ability to retrieve deep memories, stir the soul and yet still remain an intrinsic part of our very selves.
When Papillon was founded in 2011 it was our aim to create perfumes that are evocative and unique, using only the finest materials within the industry. Our compositions are produced using the classical methods, blended in small batches and are completely handcrafted. As a small artisanal company we are able to use rare and costly ingredients within all of our creations and have sourced these high grade absolutes and oils from every corner of the globe.
Exquisitely composed, all of the perfumes in the collection are eau de parfum strength using a very high concentration of the pure extrait.
All of our perfumes are androgynous as we believe there to be no gender boundaries when wearing a perfume.
Papillon aim to continue the beauty and tradition of the ancient art of perfume making in the 21st century.
All of the perfumes are cruelty free and not tested on animals.
We use synthetic castoreum and synthetic civet.
The ambergris in Tobacco Rose is beach combed and therefore classified as natural flotsam.
The hyraceum is collected from the wild from the fossilised latrines created by large groups of the Cape Hyrax. This material is collected with no harm or adverse effects on the animals.
Anubis and Tobacco Rose contain ethically harvested beeswax from commercial hives in Italy, not wild. Due to the inclusions of beeswax in Anubis and Tobacco Rose, only Angelique, Dryad and Bengale Rouge are suitable for vegans.
Each formula is roughly a 50/50 ratio between natural absolutes, resins and oils to synthetic materials.
There is no outsourcing; all our formulas are compounded and bottled in the lab.
In the Book of the dead, Spell 125 represents a balance of light and dark, life and death. The compelling ceremony of weighing the deceased’s heart against a feather animate a delicate olfactory rendering of the lightness of the soul, with just a sliver of the underworld shadows.Papillon
With daring doses of indolic jasmine and rich feral musks, Salome's bedevilled and velvety animalic facets dance seductively behind a veil of Turkish rose and carnation. Vintage and honeyed, it lures with the warm, plush appeal of an erotic boudoir before ensnaring the wearer in a web of unashamed erotic delight. Slip into your second skin with Salome.Papillon
A golden fur, swathed in sandalwood and doused in honey. Sweet myrrh purrs behind a warm, rosy skin, misted with oakmoss and dappled in the rich shades of a leopard pelt. A cosy, caramel comfort glows from a gourmand heart, while sweet Tonka slinks an opulent softness upon your skin.Papillon
