Tears

The fashion brand Denim Tears is launching its first fragrance, Tears, in collaboration with Comme des Garçons Parfums. It is built around memories of rural Georgia.
Through Denim Tears, founder Tremaine Emory explores African American history and the broader African diaspora. With Tears, that narrative moves beyond clothing and into the realm of scent. The fragrance is composed around the "scent of cotton, capturing the essence of rural Georgia just after the rain, when heat rises from the red clay and the cotton fields lie damp and green."
Emory links the concept directly to summers spent in Harlem, Georgia, recalling the distinct blend of red clay, dew, vegetation, and perspiration created by the region's heat. Perfumer Paul Guerlain translated that memory into a dry, floral, and musky composition.
The fragrance opens with galbanum, ambrettolide, and sage, suggesting a green, aromatic start softened by musky ambrettolide. The heart brings together narcissus, jasmine, flouve, and orris. Here, florals meet herbaceous and powdery textures, featuring flouve—an ingredient associated with the warm, coumarin-like scent of dried grass and hay. The base continues in an earthy direction with vetiver, hay, cypriol, and musk.
